RMIT:ART:INTERSECT runs a dynamic set of art projects and events—from gallery exhibitions to residency programs and public art installations. Our team works with internal and external audiences and stakeholders to help close the distance between our School, our University, our city and the globe. Every semester we open up internship opportunities. The aim of this engagement is to provide individuals with a meaningful, quality and hands-on challenges that will further their career prospects and give them valuable experience in the arts industry. The Curatorial Internship has specifically been developed as a testing ground and sandbox for budding curators.
The internship will run across the semester period. It will entail approximately 4 to 8 hours of work per week and will include both on-site and self-directed work. The project will involve the development and delivery of an exhibition that will be held at the conclusion of the internship. While the galleries are flexible in their working times, some engagements will not be able to be moved, and it is advised that prospective interns have general availability on Thursdays as well as at the end of the semester period. Further, it should be noted that gallery events are sometimes outside of normal business hours.
To be eligible you must have an interest and basic knowledge of contemporary art practice and curatorial studies. This includes direct experience, transferable experience or relevant coursework (such as the Masters of Arts Arts Management Curating Contemporary Art course). Please note that we will preference students who are enrolled in the Masters of Arts Arts Management Integrated Project course and who intend to use this opportunity as their coursework project. Further please note that first priority will be given to RMIT School of Art current Honours and Postgraduate students and second priority to RMIT School of Art alumni and RMIT University students.
