SITUATE / 1 August to 24 October 2019 at Eastside International Los Angeles, United States of America
Keith Clancy is the recipient of the 2019 studio residency award at Eastside International Los Angeles (ESXLA). Keith will undertake a three-month studio residency at ESXLA, located in the Brewery art colony complex in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles.
Keith W. Clancy is a queer audio-visual artist, composer, painter and writer born in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia in June 1968. His earliest memory is of scrawling with his mother’s lipstick on his father’s newly hand-polished teal Valiant: this image of a smear of intense colour on a pristine surface could serve as a guiding metaphor for all his subsequent visual, sonic and even textual practice. He studied Philosophy and Fine Arts at the University of Sydney in the late 1980s and returned to Australia in 2013 to study at RMIT where he graduated from the BA (Fine Art) Honours program in 2018. He is commencing a PhD in 2019 on "realness" and the real in drag culture.
This award has been generously supported by Eastside International Los Angeles.
