SITUATE / January to March 2018
Aoife Coleman is a recipient of the 2018 Honours Travelling Scholarships, an award generously supported by RMIT University School of Art. Aoife will be travelling to Iceland to attend a remote art school, LungA, where she will undertake a series of workshops specialising in conceptual performance, spatial and sound art practice.
Aoife Coleman’s installation and filmic practice is centred around movement and duality. Working with film, prints, paint, ordinary objects and sound she creates scenes of déjà vu, endless loops, paranoia and laughter. Flipping between recognition and misrecognition her works tease our lust for control and interrupt our habitual loops of perception. Playing with time and meaning her practice points to the ability for everything to become nothing under the right circumstances.
