Jason Maling is an artist who constructs compositions of social agency that move between comedy and critique. He explores individual and collective expressions of play through processes of public invitation, exchange and negotiation. Jason’s practice is both solo and highly collaborative and he often engages with unusual sites, subcultures and communities. He co-founded art collective Field Theory in 2009 and his recent projects include the podcast series Kids vs Art; the durational broadcast 9000 Minutes (Queen Victoria Market); The Physician, an ongoing cultural anxiety treatment program for art Institutions (MCA Sydney, City Gallery, Wellington); and Vanitas, a transmedia thriller for smartphones (Melbourne General Cemetery). Jason is currently developing a major new project with Field Theory called Final Visions which is part of the upcoming ACCA show Greater Together.
