SITE EIGHT / 19 June to 27 June 2014
Six wrapped packages sit piled in an overflowing suitcase; their pristine surfaces belying the great distance they have travelled. A couple whirls in jarring circles across the floor in an eerie, constricted waltz. Richly painted orbs cast a neon glow against the wall. A man lies stretched out with his dog, his leathery skin scorched by the ground beneath him. A woman gazes out at a camera, her words muffled by a mask.
Presented by Coalesce ARI, This Must be the Place is a collaboration between RMIT’s Hong Kong and Melbourne Master of Fine Art students. The exhibition explores how individuals relate to the place in which they reside and how we represent our national identity—individually and collectively.
This project is proudly supported by RMIT Link Arts and Culture and the RMIT School of Art.
